Obiettivi formativi

The targets are: to provide knowledge on regulated and/or appropriated mineralogical investigations; to identify and characterize minerals that have an impact on the environment and human health, materials that contain them, and the different environments in which they are present (air, water, soil, natural and anthropogenic matrices); to provide knowledge for identifying cases of pollution and for choosing appropriate approaches and treatments to contain or reduce or eliminate the pollution by certain minerals (for example, use of natural and synthetic minerals to contain toxic or radioactive substances, reclamation of materials containing asbestos).

The teaching contents contribute to the achievement of the educational objectives of the degree with regard to the practical and applicative aspects of the characterization of polluting or harmful minerals, of the materials that contain them and of the minerals suitable for specific reclamation. In particular, the techniques learned during the course provide a valuable tool for the characterization of environmental problems related to specific mineral species.

Modalità di insegnamento

L'insegnamento viene erogato attraverso lezioni in aula, esercitazioni in aula e molteplici attività in laboratorio.

La metodologia didattica consiste in:

  • 34 ore di lezioni frontali;
  • 6 ore di esercitazioni in aula;
  • 16 ore di attività pratiche in laboratorio;

Teaching is delivered through classroom lectures, classroom exercises and multiple laboratory activities.

The teaching methodology consists of: 34 hours of classroom lectures; 6 hours of classroom exercises; 16 hours of practical activities in the laboratory; 8 hours of field excursion.

The exercises will be carried out in the classroom by dividing the student component into small groups in order to encourage group work and interactions. The activities will be guided by the teaching staff and the data obtained will be collegially commented.

In the laboratory activities the student component, in first person and in small groups (of 5-6 people), will observe and select samples of minerals and inorganic fibers and materials that contain them, will prepare them for subsequent investigations through 3 different techniques, will carry out the collection of data to the instruments and finally will re-elaborate the data obtained. The various operational phases will be guided by the teachers and discussed collegially with the student component.

Although attendance is not compulsory, it is strongly recommended and particularly useful for laboratory activities.

Communications with the student component take place via e-mail and therefore registration on the Campusnet page of the course is required.
